The fomer air force chief Chalit Phukphasuk was one of the people behind the coup in 2006. Now Mr Chalit is accused of corruption by the UDD, United Front of Democracy against Dictatorship (a k a the red shirts, in favour of the old Thaksin rule).
Mr Chalit has after retirement built a 5 million Baht house and another two for his mother and sister. The UDD leader Jatuporn Promphan is wondering how you come up with such a sum of money after having been a civil servant all your life. Mr Jatuporn believes the money have come from some corrupted deal around Thailand buying JAS Gripen planes, instead of other cheaper planes such as the American F-16.
Mr Chalit answers that he [as Swedish former PM Goeran Persson, btw] has taken a bank loan and that the houses are not THAT lyxurious anyway. JAS Gripen was also the best deal for the Thai airforce since they can deliver in time and produce better planes...
