Jim Thompson was an American who fell in love with Thailand during WW2 and built a house by a khlong in Bangkok. He also seems to have been the one who introduced thai silk to the Western fashion houses. The guy went on a hike on a hill in Malysia in 1967 and simply vanished from the face of the Earth. Not a clue of what happened to him. A story to make a film of!
I can strongly recommend a visit to this museum and to the restaurant. A lovely place for those who want that colonial feeling... (Although not necessarily colonization...)
