Such an incident could have happened anywhere. Weird stuff doesn't just happen in the United States. If the boyfriend was complicit; he should be charged. But there seems to be a lot of questions here and the woman involved doesn't sound like she has her 'act' together either.
No, you didn't write anything to incriminate the man; I found some info about potential charges on another website. Frankly, the both sound kind of strange. Kansas? Hmm.

As far as I can see I have written nothing to inriminate the man. Although one can ask why he has not phoned the police earlier.
To me it sounds like none of them have a lift that goes all the way to the top...
I am not sure though, that the same would happen in, for example Sweden...
